I've been quiet lately due to a heavy workload with my courses, but I have been taking pictures of life around me. It's nice to be able to show people the little things that catch my eye around town.
In some of the older Tube stations there are still tiles giving directions toward parts of town that were on the outskirts. Hammersmith is still very much close to the middle of London, but at the time, I am sure it was an affluent suburb. I also love the font styles used all over the Tube.
I had afternoon tea with my boyfriend's mum at Fortnum & Mason, and they brought out this lovely silverware. Everything about the store oozes historical class. It's also a lovely place to go people watch, as everyone from tourists to business men come in to have lunch or a pot of tea. The window displays were lovely. I will have to go back and get photos. Again, I love the tile work in the London Underground. This particular set is from Caledonian Road station on the Picadilly line, but you'll find these all over town, in addition to modern hanging signs telling you which way is up to the street. All the bright light behind me is snow! It's coming down heavily today, more snow than London normally gets, and it's just lovely. The commuters, however, are not as pleased. Watching people try to drive up the street is entertaining to say the least. The city just isn't prepared for more than a tiny dusting of snow. No salt on the roads, and some businesses lay out grit and salt, but many do not. It can take a bit longer to get around on days like this, but it is worth it just to see the city all dressed up for winter.
